Retuning is performed to better than 0.002 cents of precision.
A number of useful and interesting tunings are included.
1. Preliminaries
If you haven't already done so, you should have installed Max/MSP or Max for Live first.
Once Max/MSP or Max for Live are installed, download the following package:
SuperMunchy.dmg
Open up the package by double clicking on the file you downloaded. In the folder that opens, there is an application called "SuperMunchy Utility", a collection of SuperMunchy scales, and a file called "mtof".
2a. Installation for Max 5 and Max4Live
On your Mac, locate and open this folder:
/Applications/Max5/Cycling '74/max-externals/
This folder might be in a different place depending on where you installed Max 5.
In that folder find the "mtof.mxo" that comes with Max. Rename it mtof-original.mxo.
Then copy the mtof.mxo from the Supermunchy disk image to the max-externals folder.
Now, SuperMunchy will enable retuning Max and Pluggo synths. The tuning is changed using the SuperMunchy Utility. Copy the SuperMunchy disk contents to a folder in your /Applications folder, or in the LMSO folder, or wherever you like.
Due to the particular design of Max, you have to restart Max (or Live in this case of Max4Live) in order to change the tuning. At a given time there is only a single tuning that applies to all of Max.
2b. Installation for older versions of Max
Open the folder "/Library/Application Support/Cycling '74/externals/". You should now make a backup copy of the original mtof file that is in that folder. Perhaps rename it "mtof-original". Make sure at this time that you are not running your sequencer that hosts Pluggo, nor are you running Max/MSP. Then, copy the mtof file from the SuperMunchy folder into this folder.
SuperMunchy is now installed.
3. Usage
Now, to set the tuning, run the "SuperMunchy Utility", choose the tuning from the popup menu, and press the button. The next time you launch Max/MSP, or your sequencer, the tuning you selected will be used to tune the Pluggo or Max/MSP instruments.
To change the currently selected tuning, quit from Max/MSP and/or the Pluggo host, and then run SuperMunchy Utility again and choose the new tuning. The next time Max/MSP or Pluggo is run, that will be the active tuning.
